News in General From the 30th of August to the 1st of September, there was held at the Salesian Provincial House, Hyderabad a gathering of some 60 religious, belonging to the four groups of the Salesian Family: the Salesians of Don Bosco, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, the Sisters of Mary Immaculate and the Missionary Sisters of Mary Help of Christians. News in General RAMAPURAM, India, APRIL 30, 2006: Father Augustine Thevarparampil, known as the apostle of the untouchables, was beatified in Ramapuram, India.
Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, Major Archbishop of Ernakulam-Angamaly, presided at the beatification ceremony today in the name of Benedict XVI.

News in General World Youth Day will be celebrated on Palm Sunday this year. The celebrations will only be at the diocesan level. During the celebration at the Vatican, the pilgrim cross will be received, brought from Cologne, Germany, where World Youth Day was held last August. Also arriving in Rome will be a delegation from Australia, which will host World Youth Day 2008.
On Palm Sunday, April 9th, Pope Benedict XVI will launch a spiritual pilgrimage in three stages leading to the World Youth Day 2008 in Australia. This year the focus is on the Holy Spirit, Spirit of Truth, who reveals Christ to us, and opens our hearts to the Word of salvation that leads to the fullness of Truth.
The theme for 2007 is based on a verse from the Gospel of John: “Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another` (13:34).” The Holy Father hopes that “we will discover more about the Holy Spirit, Spirit of Love, who infuses divine charity within us and makes us aware of the material and spiritual needs of our brothers and sisters.”
The third and final stage will take us to the world meeting of 2008 in Sydney. That event will have the theme “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses,” a phrase taken from the Acts of the Apostles (1:8).

Gangarapu Anil and Yerramneni Balaswamy were ordained deacons at Don Bosco Youth Centre (Jnana Deep Vidyapeet), Pune. Jeyraj Alex Michael and Sangipagi Shanthmurthy were ordained deacons at Becchi (Poonamallee Seminary). News in General The Rector Major, Fr. Pascual Chavez was with us for two days, 8-9 February, 2006. The preparations were long and arduous. The visit was short and sweet. News in General The Rector Major opened the newly set up exhibition on Don Bosco and his life entitles: The Good News of Our Lord Jesus Christ to the Youth according to St. John Bosco. He unveiled a plaque, cut the ribbon and spend some time seeing the exhibits. He was so impressed that he sat on the floor at a point were he would find a place in future among his predecessors who are no more. Fr.
