| Chief Minister`s Christmas Gift to the Christians of AP |
| 18/12/2007. INH #N.1581 Posted by Vincent Castilino, Hyderabad News in General, Success Story The much debated and protested Christian Property Protection Bills were finally discarded by the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He himself announced the `good tidings` during the United Christmas Celebrations held on December 17, 2007 here at Hyderabad. This comes in the wake of the resolute protests staged by the Churches in Andhra Pradesh over the last one month. Workshops at Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Kadapa and Nizamabad, posters, e-mails, faxes, telegrams and memorandums with innumerable faithful taking the lead conscientised the Christian population of the state. Though many people from the parishes / pastorates, where lands had been encroached and alienated, demanded the enactment of the Bills, the Churches cutting across Denominations and Sects, led by their Bishops and leaders opposed them. The two Draft Bills, one prepared on the lines of the Hindu Endowment Board and the other based on the Muslim Wakf Board, are not applicable to the Church properties which are unlike them, not donated but bought by the Church funds. These Bills contained many clauses that not only made provisions for take over of the administration of the Churches and their Institutions but also of other Christian voluntary and service organisations. Even the appointment, punishment and removal of the Bishops and Heads of Churches and and controlling of their finances and functioning were stipulated by the Bills. . Read More » | |
